Stretching : Facial Splits Stretch This stretch is for the groin and quadricep muscles, the red line indicates where the tension is. First off, read the information on the Stretching page to read about the idea of a light jog before stretching and much more. The facial splits are a very hard stretch to master, and many top ahletes will never do so because their hips among other body parts are not configured in the right manner. If you are never able to obtain the perfect position (see photo) do not panic, you aren't the only one and it may simply because you do not have the right hips for such an extreme stretching position. Standing up straight widen your feet until they are as far apart as possible, then reach down onto the floor and support yourself with your hands/arms whilst you split your legs further apart still and lower yourself to the floor (or as far as you can go). You should feel tension in the groins, and most probably will feel some in the hips too. If you are a beginner then it is normal not to be able to execute thi move in the early days, some olympic athletes have trained for years before being able to come close to executing with ease and proficiency this stretch. ..Back to the Stretching Page..
